Always Hope

When you’re a typical thirteen year old and your mom’s best friend and your best friend’s dad get married, you call that really cool. It just automatically ups the amount of time you get to spend with your BFF.

When you’re pushing 40 and you look back on it all, you call it fantastic because what you were really getting was an extended family. The kind of people who take up special residence in your heart.

Hope, on her wedding day, graciously allowing a 13 year old to take part.

As my BFF’s dad says, “We always have Hope.” It’s true, especially since that’s his wife’s name.

I thought about that “always having Hope” line the other day in the grocery store. I studied my list and felt I was missing an ingredient for a recipe I wanted to make.

The list was insufficient and my memory failed me, but I still had Hope. So I texted her. Within 5 minutes, she responded with a full list of ingredients I needed. I knew she would.

Hope’s a helper and an encourager.

Isn’t that true of the hope we carry in our hearts? In the midst of joy, hope cheers us on. Through trials, hope urges and reminds us that not all is lost.

When all is stripped away, hope remains. In other words, “We always have Hope.”

*Stay tuned tomorrow for the recipe Hope helped me salvage.*
