Eyes on 2018

Posted on January 17, 2018 by admin
January 17, 2018

It’s not that I’m against New Year’s resolutions. It’s that I have a track record with them. A losing record. So as the calendar neared the end of 2017, I made a conscience decision to not set any resolutions. I didn’t want to set myself up for failure…again.

I’ve made plenty of resolutions in the past. More than likely, you’ve made some of the same…

Lose weight.

Exercise.

Organize the mounds of papers taking over the house.

Keep the van clean. (Actually, this would be listed under miracles, not resolutions.)

Pack healthy lunches for my veggie-resistant children.

Read my Bible more.

Don’t make piles of random stuff on the kitchen counter.

Blog more. (I’m sinking further in my chair from typing that.)

Sound familiar?

I hope that as you’re reading this, you’re currently rocking your resolutions! I’m cheering for you!
People like you inspire me!

But if you’re like my past self, January may only be half over, but you’re completely finished with the resolutions that seemed so attainable a few short weeks ago. I can completely relate.

So, this year, am I shirking my responsibilities and goals? No. I’m taking on a new perspective.

I got tired of beating myself up about all of the things that I couldn’t accomplish. Not following through with resolutions only seemed to highlight my shortcomings. It’s not that I don’t want to change, I’ve realized that on my own, I’m incapable.

Where I am weak, He is strong.

This year, I’m striving to move my focus from my failures to the One who is ever faithful. I want to watch Him work in my life and in those around me. I’m not going to get caught up in the boxes I don’t check on my to-do lists. I’m going to witness His incredible love and mercy. I’m not going to measure my worth by my weight or my dust. I’m going to embrace the identity of being His child!

So whether you’ve made it through the beginning of 2018 showing those resolutions who’s boss or you’re trying to find where you put your shiny new planner, don’t lose focus. Keep your eyes on our steadfast Savior.
